New Year’s Resolution…

My New Year’s Resolution is:

“I will surround myself with all that I love.”

Simple, but so revolutionary in the way I live my life.

I decided that I needed to redecorate my house to truly reflect my style. The things I had decorated with before were just the things I had lying around, no real attachment or value to me, other than they went alright together and made it feel like a home more than a house. But, now that I have a bit of a spending allowance each month, I wanted to focus more on what I always wish I could have. The things that truly make me smile. So, down came all the decorations. Then I started brainstorming…

IMG_7717Then I went and priced out materials, got “approval” on the budget, and had Deric hang these perfect shelves:

There is still some ways to go (current school pictures are amongst the ideas, and a framed quote about family amongst other things…).

I then redid this wall:

I created a very aesthetically pleasing, functional, and neutral background to allow for pops of color in the items I would add there. Namely, my lists of crafts and activities to do with the kids, rules, homework, and schedule, etc. I added a small painting that I did at the age of 12 for an artistic touch. This is my “organization station”.

{these animal print gift tags are amongst the things I bought to decorate with: LOVE!

The fox ornament was part of a Christmas gift from my bestie. Pure perfection!}

I took all the decor down in the other areas of the house for the most part. I plan on purchasing artwork that I love to put up. I have already bought five pieces and asked my mother and siblings to create something for me.

I then added a children’s artwork display above my back door (also in my dining room) to show off the children’s best artwork. (I got the line–which is actually a curtain wire– with the clips at IKEA.) This is a better option than the fridge, where the kids just pull it off and throw it on the floor 10 times a day. This Makes the artwork feel important and uses an awkward space to add color and fun.

This is a small project I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time. It was super easy, and so cute, right?!

Knob wreath hanger for front door:

Bathroom organizing mini-project:

I have little storage space in my bathroom. I needed to better organize under my sink. There was so much space I couldn’t utilize since there are no shelves in it. So, I added a pop-up wire shelf from home depot ($9), and voila!

Laundry Sorting Station Upgrade:

I bought some extra large laundry baskets ($8/ea). Now I can fit all the clothes from all over the house in them to be washed. It’s the little things… 😉

I also put a hanging rack over the back of the laundry room door to hang things like bras to dry. I haven’t really had anywhere to hang those things before so it was a great use for something I already had that wasn’t serving much purpose elsewhere.

Adding a little Green:

I planted some succulents inside my kitchen. Also, I gave the plant I inherited from my Grandmother for my wedding a better place to grow because of the new shelves. It was cramped before on the hutch.

More to come.

I’m very excited about it all. It makes me feel like I can stay in this house another five years. (It’s enough change.)

In an effort to be a better parent and stay on top of things I moved the homework schedule to somewhere I would see it everyday. (the fridge)IMG_7715…And in an effort to get back in the fitness groove, I posted this in my bathroom. Yes, I did do this before my shower this morning. Haha! I also created a workout routine to do twice a week. Plus, I have been running on the elliptical at least twice a week to make sure I get my cardio in.

I hope your New Year’s resolution is bringing you joy!

About stacey

I am the Mom of two young, rambunctious girls, a curious little boy, and a wee little man who is bursting with joy for life. I just wanted to do something for myself that allowed me to harness the magical moments of being a Mom. (A job that sometimes feels thankless, misunderstood, and considered easy by those that haven't done it.) I wanted to be more positive by looking more closely at the good things that happen every day via photos and my thoughts.
